These Crispy Air Fryer Spicy Roasted Chickpeas are a fun, healthy snack made in the air fryer in less than 20 minutes. Crispy air fryer chickpeas turn out golden brown and crunchy on the outside and just a little soft on the inside making this a perfect snack for any healthy diet. Serve these spicy crispy chickpeas instead of French fries or potato chips with a hamburger or use this air-fryer snack as a salad topper instead of croutons.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR SPICY AIR FRYER ROASTED CHICKPEAS

​HOW TO MAKE ROAST CHICKPEAS 

  1. Drain the canned chickpeas in a colander. Then place on paper towels or clean kitchen towels until the chickpeas are dry. Move them around for all the chickpea surfaces will be moisture-free.
  2. Place the chickpeas and minced jalapenos in a large bowl. Spray cooking oil over the chickpeas…approximately 3 seconds and stir. If using olive oil, drizzle with oil and then toss chickpeas. Add the seasonings and toss the chickpeas and peppers again.

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer to 400o degrees for about 4 minutes.
  2. Add the seasoned chickpeas to the air fryer basket. Make sure they are evenly distributed.
  3. Set the Air Fryer to 400o degrees for about 12 minutes.
  4. At 6 minutes, stir or shake chickpeas. Resume cooking for the remaining 6 minutes.
  5. Check for your desired crispy, crunchy texture. If they’re not to your crunch level, cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add extra seasoning, if needed, while they are still hot. Toss.

Tips for Air Fried Spicy Chickpeas with Jalapenos

  • Make sure the chickpeas are dry before you air fry them. 
  • Toss chickpeas well. Every chickpea should be coated with seasoning.
  • Toss or shake the chickpeas a couple of times during air frying. 
  • When Air Frying make sure you take them out halfway and either give them a really good stir or shake them in the pan. Don’t be afraid to do this a couple of times.
  • When you hear popping, they’re done.

OVEN METHOD

Follow all the instructions above but use the conventional oven. Place them on a baking sheet. Set the oven to 300o degrees and slow roast.

This will take about 40 minutes. Stir a couple of times during the baking process. 

HOW TO STORE CRISPY AIR-FRIED CHICKPEAS

Air-fried chickpeas stay crispy for about 2 days in an airtight container.

Q. Can I use dried chickpeas instead of canned for air frying?

A. Yes, you can. Soak the dry chickpeas overnight, then cook them until tender before air frying. Then follow this recipe.

Q. Can I reheat air fried chickpeas?

A. Yes, you can reheat air fried chickpeas by placing them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes until they reach the desired temperature. Note: they might not be as crispy as when freshly cooked

Ingredients
  

  • 2 can 2 cans of Chickpeas…drained and dried
  • 2 tsp Spray Oil or Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Jalapeno Garlic Seasoning more or less to taste
  • 1 or 2 Jalapeno, fresh and large cut up, small or large pieces
  • 1/2 tsp fine ground sea salt more or less to taste

Instructions
 

  • Drain in a colander then on paper towels until chickpeas are dry and place them in a bowl.
  • Add spray oil or olive oil and mix.
  • Add the seasonings and mix gently again.
  • Preheat the Air Fryer to 400 degrees for about 4 minutes.
  • Add the seasoned and mixed peas to the Air Fryer tray making sure they are evenly distributed.
  • Set the Air Fryer to 400 degrees for about 12 minutes and cook.
  • Stir or shake peas at about 6 minutes, resume cooking for the last 6 minutes.
  • When done check for desired crispy, crunchy texture. If not to your crunch level, cook for another 2 minutes .Add extra seasoning if needed after they're done cooking and while they are still hot.
  • Enjoy!
